2nd annual HUCK FEST

Huck Fest, brought to you by the Send It, ME boys www.senditmaine.com was another huge success this year. Chuck Mathieu came up with the idea for Huck Fest last year and managed to round up 9 boaters to go run Grand Falls. This year the number of boaters more than doubled and the spectator crowd was incredible. Big thanks to everyone that came out and supported your local boating community. We could hear the cheers from the spectators ledge over the roaring sound of Grand Falls all the way on the other side of the river. You guys really helped get the boaters fired up! There were stomped lines, flat landings, a couple swims and even a first decent. Big props to Ryan Waterhouse and Ryan Thompson for absolutely stomping the first decent of Grand Falls in a raft (that we know of). Here’s a brief video recap of Huck Fest, more footage will be released later with another project the Send It, ME boys have been working on this year. Again, THANK YOU EVERYONE for coming out and we’ll see you again next year for the 3rd annual Huck Fest! Don’t forget to register for the K-BOMB coming up on July 21st either!

  1. I have grown up next to Grand Falls. If nobody noticed, there is a log cabin just upstream of the falls on surfers left of the river. I grew up making the trek up Long Falls Dam Rd to Big Eddy. I had no idea what an eddy was at this point, but this was apparently a big one; and it was. Just downstream of Long Falls was this massive eddy that happened to have a road that intersected its path just below the Flagstaff Dam. From the Big Eddy we would travel downstream some eight miles and then pull over to the right of the river about a mile or so before the falls. This was just above the old dam. We would then walk about a mile down the side of the river to the camp. The camp was located just upstream from the falls. I have looked at those falls at every level; explored them at every level; I left my grandfathers remains at the cabin which you can almost see from the falls. Congrats to the brave souls that ran the falls. This is a very special place to me, and I feel that with the help of Chuck Mathieu and the amazing community of boaters in the area and the state, that this can be a sustainable fest for years to come.

  2. Troy! Thanks for sharing that story and for the kind words! We need to set up a night for a couple frosty pints at Ebenezer’s at some point this summer! Grand Falls is a great place that is often over looked and needs to celebrated!
