Yesterday while taking a day off from boating to recover from my beating at the Huck Fest I stopped into Rafting Randys down in Skowhegan to meet with Josh Farrand about some prizes for the races. Just to give you a teaser of what we’ve come up with heres a quick photo. Big thanks to Rafting Randys for sponsoring the races! We’ll be posting more on the matter soon, but here’s a little stoke for ya all! Be sure to visit Rafting Randys for all of your kayaking and rafting needs! WWW.RAFTINGRANDYS.COM
Huck Fest, brought to you by the Send It, ME boys www.senditmaine.com was another huge success this year. Chuck Mathieu came up with the idea for Huck Fest last year and managed to round up 9 boaters to go run Grand Falls. This year the number of boaters more than doubled and the spectator crowd was incredible. Big thanks to everyone that came out and supported your local boating community. We could hear the cheers from the spectators ledge over the roaring sound of Grand Falls all the way on the other side of the river. You guys really helped get the boaters fired up! There were stomped lines, flat landings, a couple swims and even a first decent. Big props to Ryan Waterhouse and Ryan Thompson for absolutely stomping the first decent of Grand Falls in a raft (that we know of). Here’s a brief video recap of Huck Fest, more footage will be released later with another project the Send It, ME boys have been working on this year. Again, THANK YOU EVERYONE for coming out and we’ll see you again next year for the 3rd annual Huck Fest! Don’t forget to register for the K-BOMB coming up on July 21st either!
This Sunday, the 24th, whitewater kayakers will again converge on Grand Falls for an all out huck fest. Everyone is invited, the event is unofficial and if you don’t kayak there’s a great viewing area on a ledge overlooking the falls. Take as many laps as you can handle, no prizes, no competition, just all out paddling at your own risk for the reward of some adrenaline and good photos. We will be filming as well, awesome beat downs or stomped lines will certainly make the video. Pre race gathering at The Marshalls in the Forks on Saturday night. Meet in town around 9am on Sunday, converge on the falls around 10am. Grand Falls is located just above the put in for the Dead River, just park and follow the trail over the snowmobile bridge. We hope to see everyone there, kayakers or not, lets make it a big gathering this year!
Well, its been a crazy spring. We started out in a drought but in good old New England fashion that didn’t last long and the rivers and creeks are flowing once again! The last batch of rain brought on some more creeking, another Smalls huck sesh and even a little high water Madison fun. Here’s a teaser of what maineriverlife.com and the Send It, ME crew have been up too. And, we’re just getting started, we haven’t even dipped our fingers in the bean can yet as they’d say here in the Forks!
